Background
The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1905 and today consists of 109 musicians. Under the direction of conductor Neeme Järvi from 1982-2004, the orchestra made a number of international tours and some 100 recordings, establishing itself among Europe’s leading orchestras. This led to the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra being named the National Orchestra of Sweden in 1997. The orchestra’s current chief conductor is Gustavo Dudamel from Venezuela, one of the greatest conducting talents of our time.
